Doesn't the TFI tell the coil when to fire? Swap the TFI. Most likely gonna screw up your timing a bit but just unclip connection and remove the two screws and it should slide down. If it isn't the problem you have a spare just in case and it is a good thing to have IMHO. When reinstalling make sure to put some paste that it comes with on the back of the module and slide it back up in place and replace the screws. The only difficult part of swapping it out is that it is located in a PITA location.

Pic is too close to see what the options are.

If you can, make a mark on the base of the distributor and the intake manifold, to locate where to put the distributor back to after moving it. Disconnect the connector on the TFI, loosen the distributor, and rotate to a position where you can get at the TFI screws.

Remember to use heat sink compound on the back side of the TFI.

Nice! Glad you got that sorted out. I have had issues with the TFI a couple of times. As a result I have decided to relocate it out of the Heat where it is not Happy. I don't know if this is the solution but it can't hurt and it is a HELL of a lot easier to replace in the new location vs. on the distributor.
