One thing to always be sure if, it turns out, is to get the pins at just the right height and angle.
I'm sure most just go right in and bottom out, but we had an issue with LeCarra (maybe it still is?) where you needed to bend the pins inward slightly because there was just too much engagement and they were catching on the release cam.
Not sure if anyone broke their cams, but at the very least it was a hard click and not smooth acting.
I think the big issue was clicking while just steering, from the pins just contacting the tips of the release cam. Like you would hear some older cars, but not normally our Broncos.
A slight bend in the pins always took care of the issue. When you first try on the adapter then, turn the wheel gently to make sure nothing is contacting anything else when the turn signal switch is in the OFF/Center position.
