    Squeal on startup

I know this thread is a bit old, but I didn't want to start yet another 3g upgrade thread so I thought I'd just tack on information here. I've had a 3g on my bronco for 2 years now. It's great except for a few things. 1) Squeal on startup (single V belt) 2) Squeal with lights on at idle...

Drum spindles - Different left and right?

The axle shafts are different. Just for grins I tried to see if you could swap one spindle for the other. You can't. Trying to put the spindle with the short shoulder on the axle shaft with the long shoulder leaves a big gap. Trying the other way doesn't let the axle shaft go all the way...

    A little brake help

2 basic ways to go for disc (I'm looking into it myself and reading allot on this board). 1) All ford parts - there's a writeup in the tech section of this forum. With all ford, you change nearly everything including the knuckles. The ford disc knuckles are supposed to be beefier than the...

    Heater core.........

The two things that gave me the most difficulty with rebuilding my heater box was: 1) Attaching and adjusting the push/pull control cables. There's precious little room behind there to maneuver. 2) The heater core pipes come through the firewall and sit very close to the wheel wells causing...

Drum spindles - Different left and right?

I really just should have asked "should I worry about this?" Since its nothing to worry about I'll continue putting my daily driver back together. It's cold riding the motorcycle to work.

Drum spindles - Different left and right?

After putting in a Spartan Locker, I was beginning to re-assemble, and I noticed that my left and right spindles were different. A bit of searching seems to show that there were 2 different spindles, but they were from different years. Does this mean the guy I paid to put a Dana 44 under my...

    Hei/msd ignition

I can give an example of one HEI failure. I'm running a DUI from BC Broncos. The magnetic pickup built into the distributor went bad and gave very wierd symptoms. The timing kept changing. I bought a replacement pickup and spent several hours carefully trying to change it. You have to pull...

Trouble removing the locking hubs on a dana 44 - Solved

Thanks for the advice. Driver's side showed a gap just as soon as I whacked it with a rubber mallet. I then used a chisel to wedge in the gap and hit the other side. It walked itself right out in about 3 minutes. Passenger side took allot of PB Blaster, then some heat (just warmed the...

Trouble removing the locking hubs on a dana 44 - Solved

Yup, it felt great for about 30 minutes. Now I'm trying to get the spindles off the knuckles. Everything I read just says PB Blaster and BFH.

Trouble removing the locking hubs on a dana 44 - Solved

I got them both off by filing down a ridge on the splines, then hitting the axle with a rubber mallet (and Newton's laws of motion) to get them to come off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxg-r7ze4I0 rxg-r7ze4I0

Trouble removing the locking hubs on a dana 44 - Solved

What did you use to pull on them? I've tried bending finish nails but they're just too soft.

Trouble removing the locking hubs on a dana 44 - Solved

I did, but maybe I'll give it another go and really clean with a brass brush. Yes. In the video you can see that the snap ring and the clutch mechanism is out (1A051 and 1A053)

Trouble removing the locking hubs on a dana 44 - Solved

;DI'm having trouble removing both front hubs. It seems to be similar problems on each hub. I've pulled the outer plate, the 2 locking rings, and the actuating mechanism. But I can't get the clutch to come off. Using small screw drivers I can push the back plate to make a gap between the...

    cruise control

I have an after market cruise control that I bought for my motorcycle. It uses the tachometer feed to keep the engine rpm at the right speed as opposed to tracking the actual vehicle speed. The instructions talk about 2, 4, 6, or 8 cylinder vehicles and how to set it up properly for each. It...

How to test if your alternator and voltage regulator is good?

Easiest thing I've found is to drive to Advance Auto, Checker, Etc, and ask them to bring out their charging system tester. It's free and easy and pretty accurate. You can remove the alternator and have it spin tested in most shops as well.

Anybody received the Nov/Dec Bronco Driver yet?

Ahh the blessings of electronic subscriptions. I've had mine over a week.

    ignition switch

The only problem with that clip is that it's all done outside the Bronco. I have a 1970 with the key switch way up on the top half of the dash. I can't figure a way to get my arm all the way up there and apply the needed pressure to push in and twist the back half of the switch. I can barely...

    spare tire latch

I took one bolt out, then found a longer bolt to put back in its place. While keeping pressure on the longer bolt I removed the 2nd bolt. I swung the plate out of the way and put the 2nd bolt back in and tightened it. Then took the long bolt out and put the original short bolt it. Worked on...
