Body on Frame

After a ten month separation, the body and frame are reunited, this time with a one inch WH body lift.

@Fireball, there is Pebble Beige with the Wimbledon White wheels.

TBP Interior Bar and some issues with the overdrive

It’s been a super-busy month for me. This has translated into minimal progress on the build. After much research and overthinking, I have placed an order for a TBP Six Point deluxe bar and had it shipped straight to my master body man.

The other effort has been around getting the Rancho overdrive to behave nicely with my rebuilt driveshafts. The OD is a Borg Warner product and turns out it fits great with a Borg Warner driveshaft. However, my driveshafts are now Spicer style. I got a new Dana 20 yoke that is Spicer style to correct the condition but turns out the splines are different on the Dana 20 output shaft and the OD output shaft. The new Dana 20 yoke is now being customized to fit, at considerable expense. Hoping to have more pictures soon.

Hmm. I thought the spline count was the same on the d20's. I ran into a similar problem where my trans (c4) were spicer yokes but my original drive shafts were borg warners. I had to have pat from the graveyard track down some borg worner yokes to match my drive shafts since I sold them with my original 3 speed. I believe I have the d20's yokes that were on the c4 and they are spicers. I could send them to you if you wanted to give them a try?

Get back to work after your Honeymoon. Congrats by the way!

Thank you Matt! I’ve been back to work, but unfortunately the work has involved my day job and moving on nights and weekends. I am itching to get time to work on it, but the good news is that the paint and bodywork is in-flight.

Ryan, thanks, that is generous of you and you are correct on the D20 splines. My issue is that the Rancho Overdrive requires a yoke that is splined differently. The green one in the picture is the original yoke which is being replaced. Anyway, the work is underway to get the JBG Spicer D20 replacement yoke re-splined to make it fit on the back of the overdrive. The overdrive has been a journey but I am excited about having it. Vintage part and should really help the driveability. It is good to find out that there are still ways to get a BW yoke if needed.

Doors on

Some incremental progress. Doors are painted and on, tailgate and grill are also painted. “Shop hinges” were previously used for door fitment. Now, the new quick release hinges have been used. I had the hinges zinc plated - I hope they hold up. Next is some Wimbledon white paint for the grill and tailgate letters.

At home, I have been working on reconditioning the vent parts and heater box and final prep on windows. I now have the remachined Spicer yolk to fit the Overdrive unit.

It was one year ago today that I dropped off the Bronco to get the body work started. One throwback pic from one year ago.

Wow... Really looking good! Did you paint or powder coat the wheels?

Thank you. The wheels were previously repainted with Wimbledon White. I do plan on having them powder coated. BTW, I did see your separate thread on that. Helpful as my powdercoater needs that information.

TBP Interior Bar

Roll cage is being assembled to ensure a good fit. Once it is assembled, we will get it drilled for seatbelts then I will bring it for powder coating. I am leaning towards chassis black, same as the frame.

Any thoughts out there on powder coating the inner and outer window frames? The outers are the black kind and I am leaning toward POR-15 black with the UV-resistant top coat.

Also, not sure what to do about the dash. Body man suggested removing the ashtray and radio fins and grafting the glove box a few inches to the left. I am weighing whether to do that or get a Tuffy box. I don’t plan on putting a radio in and I like that the dash is uncut.

Many have moved their glovebox door to the left a few inches. You gotta be careful of coming in contact with heater box and other items. I have two dashes and I plan to go wild on one of them and keeping the other stock as possible. Then pick one when that time comes.

I thought you were going to use Tom's cage with the flat pieces to avoid the glove box--I was looking forward to seeing that.

I was really interested in that but changed my mind since it requires a horizontal bar across the dash / lower windshield area.

Hmmm. Didn’t realize that. Have you seen the maxlider that bolts in behind the dash?
