I took a couple more baby steps today on the bronco.
Before i had to leave for work i was able to get about an hour in the garage so i removed the tail section of the wiring harness. Now its all gone and i can start installing right away when i get the time.
I also got tired of looking at my new e-brake cables hanging under the truck so i decided to get them hooked back up. The only problem was that i disconnected them about a year ago and couldn't remember how everything went back together. I really need to start taking pictures of things BEFORE i take them apart. lol
So after a couple texts to Tito i was able to get everything put back together...
Couldn't agree more, before pic's would have been extremely useful for me as well, but like you, I didn't. Truck manuals and the catalogs like Dennis Carpenters and our regular supply houses help a lot as a resource, of course then there is this board.
Ok, so i decided that while i have all the sheet metal taken off of the front end i might as well convert 'Ol Blue to EFI.
This weekend I decided to look at the local pick n pulls for a GT40 intake and serpentine set up while i was at it.
The first place i stopped at had just gotten a wrecked 2000 explorer 4x4 5.0 Automatic and it hadn't been touched...
So i was texting Tito showing him what i had found and he said: "Take the whole engine and tranny!!!" lol I had been wanting to do the AODE conversion at some point in the future and since i had one sitting in front of me i figured now was just as good of a time as any.
The explorer that i got the engine and trans out of had 166k miles on it so i was planning on rebuilding the engine and trans before i put them in the bronco.
I know that they might be fine for a long time but i have no idea what the service history is on them so i figured it would just be better to freshen them both up before the install.
What do you guys think? Rebuild both or Run them as is?
I sent the block off to the machine shop and had it bored .020 over, honed, hot tanked, new cam bearings installed, had the heads torn down, yada yada yada...
Once i got the block back from the machine shop i masked and painted it.
I decided to go with the darker ford blue so i would have some contrast in my engine bay since the lighter color is almost the same as grabber blue.
Me and my dad were going to assemble the bottom end last weekend but my whole family got the flu so we had to put it on hold. Hopefully we'll be able to get some good work in this coming weekend.
Well i made a drive up north yesterday and picked up my new 23 Gal tank that i bought on the NorCalBroncos froum through a mass buy organized by Doug (904 Bronco).
Yeah Doug, its a shame we couldn't meet and talk shop for a while. Hopefully i can get my Bronc done and make it to some NorCal events soon.
