OEM speedometer replacement, year differences

I just got a 1974, my speedometer is peeling badly.
I want to keep the vintage vibe and go OEM (even used) for the speedo.

I see several listed as 1966-1972, but what is the difference for 1973-on?

Will the other work? or cosmetic?

Mine is peeled so bad, I can't see a difference offhand

Thanks

If I recall correctly, the later years state "Unleaded Fuel Only" at the bottom. There also may be a difference in the Orange line from 55MPH on.
As far as fitting in the cluster and working, I think they all will interchange from 66-77. The 66 cluster numbering and MPH tick marks are on the outside above the numbers instead of below I think.

I just bought a new one for my 74; it fits and looks great.

The "Unleaded Fuel Only" marking came along for '75. I think the '68-'74 clusters would match what you have for your '74.

Look for the thread on here where user fallingdown posts pics of the clusters that he refurbishes.

Off the top of my head...
'66 had a 1-year only font, but was also shared with earlier years of pickup.
There was a year or two where they did the silver face instead of black.
red line at the 70 MPH mark added (not sure if they did a 55?)
Unleaded fuel markings when cats arrived.
The late '77 Canadian 160 kph speedometer.

66 and a lot of the early 67' got the speedometers with the tick marks outside the numbers. The rest is all covered in previous posts.

Just have your original speedometer restored. Will be as good as new and you get to keep your original speedometer.
