I pulled my worn out 302 for rebuild and found this. It was an origanal 3 speed truck converted to C4- D 20. It ran smooth no vibration. 20220102_173400.jpg

I don't understand the request?

Has anyone ever seen a D1AZ-6375-A flexplate, which is a 164 tooth 28 oz-in flexplate for a C6 torque converter, originally from a Ford 400...which is the same balance as a 302, but 1/4 inch deeper, so the C4 converter is shoved up against the front pump but just happens to work in your Bronco?

No, I've never seen that.

My guess it was from a FMX transmission, which would be correct for a bronco C4.

A C6 would be the wrong offset, but FMX would be correct.

Ah, yes. Possibly the rare 1973 400 FMX. That's a good catch Broncobowsher.

The only way that I can tell them apart is to lay the flywheel flat on the table on the crank flange. Then look at the ring gear. If the torque converter nut sits below the ring gear, (on the engine side of the plate,) it's a C4. If it sits flush with the ring gear ( on the transmission side of the plate,) it's C6.

You are looking for about 1/4 inch difference. Post a pic of the edge of the ring gear, and I can try to ID it.

I have never seen an FMX flexplate on a 400. But I can tell the difference between C4 and C6 pretty easy.

FMX evolved into the AOD, which is the same flexplate offset as the C4.
I will admit I know of them, don't work on them.
It's hard to see the evolution when you have them open on the bench, but since the FMX and AOD use a common planet carrier (Ravigneaux design) as opposed to a common sun gear (Simpson design) I can see the family resemblance.

I'm thankful that you remindid me of the 400 FMX. The Internet is funny that way. I had always heard that something like that existed...but they are so rare and unusual that you never see them. I did find a pic on the Pantera Site. A dual pattern 400 machined with the small block 6 bolt bell pattern. (D3az-6010-B) Kinda cool.

Here is a picture of the 400 M flexplate it has D3AP stamped on the weight, beside it is a flexplate from an 89 351W that is stamped C6. They are both 164 tooth same size weight. It does look like a different offset.thx 20220131_185723.jpg 20220131_185910.jpg

I'm going to reuse the 400M flexplate ,I believe Broncobowsher was correct that it came from an FMX trans. Thanks for the help! Dennis
