This is a good one, VW. I don't think the size is right, but I'll throw a left field guess as the rod that goes inside the backup light switch that bolts to the steering column clip. Total guess.

No you don't.
it's not the contact inside the fuel gauge selector switch is it?
i'ma guess it is a part of the stock light switch...particularly that part that turns on the interior lights when the switch is turned all the way
how about another clue? inside or outside the cab?
Pin inside the backup switch for a three speed column shifter.
Thats the bar they put in you tounge when you have it preiced
