Pulled oil pan to replace leaking pan gasket. Found these in the pan. Anyone know what it is?

Looks like the press on sleeve above the distributor gear. It seems it broke at the roll pin. Fairly important piece as it keeps the distributor shaft and gear from lifting up off the cam.

Runs good. I bought it in 2006. Only things I've done to the motor is headers and TBI. We did replace distributor at OCBR in 2009. The issue turned out to be electronic model and not distributor. The one we pulled wasn't missing any parts. I still have it for a spare.

You'd be surprised at the things you'll find in an engine. Once I accidently dropped a pushrod into the valley of a '57 Ford 292 motor. When I pulled the intake to retrieve it, I found three loose pushrods in there. Evidently mine wasn't the first boo-boo.%)
It would be hard for that sort of stuff to do any damage.

definitely a distributor gear collar. Some were a two piece design. Must have been a PO event....

Not going to worry about it. I have driven it too much for there to be a problem. Now trying to decide if I'm going to install a new oil pump while the pan is off. Anyone know of a reason not to?

The oil pump will usually last the life of the motor. But I would certainly pull the pickup tube off and clean or replace it.
