Astro-Hydraboost Conversion Master Cylinder?

Does anyone know of a mastercylinder (That will work for the Astro-Hydraboost Conversion) that has the brakeline holes/ports on the engine side of the mastercylinder? With the angled bracket, I think it will make for a cleaner/easier install. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

nearly every MC out there the problem has always been finding one with connections on the drivers side.

the problem is really how do YOU want the pedal to feel, I would go buy something like a chevy nova from the early 70s with disc and see how you like it. there is a lot of misunderstanding on the old interweb about such things.

i run the stock bronco and love it. it has a long easy to feather pedal. but some like a stiff short pedal. even a drum/drum MC will work just fine. the real trick is getting the bore size to give you the pedal you want and still be enough to positively stop the vehicle.

most all rebuilt MCs do not have checks in them anyway, and if they do it is easy to remove the one for the chamber you hook to the discs.

i read a lot of brake issues here and everyone jumps to the conclusion it is a bad MC selection. more often than not i bet it is actually a failoure to properly bleed the MC and or a misunderstanding of how to bleed a brake system that has no checks in the rebuilt MC.

I think the MC do that to direct the lines away from engine heat. For disc front / drum rear the 79 Camaro one works. For disc / disc the Corvette one works too.

I have disc/drum. I'm installing the saginaw/astro-hydraboost conversion, with the angled bracket. It would be much simpler/cleaner to have a master cylinder with the brake lines exiting on the engine side. I hoped someone knew of one, if not I can get one of the MC's suggested in the other threads.

I know there is a M/C out there that is the same as the Astro with Passenger side outlets I just can't remember what it is.

Try this - 97 Ford F250 MC390337 or similar

I used a 1978 Corvette MC for my disk/drum hydroboost conversion. It has outlets on both sides of the MC so you just plug the ones you don't use. It works amazing!!!

It is not that hard to bend up your lines...

I did not like the Camero master cylinder, it leaked.

I used the Astro Van master, bigger piston and firmer pedal on my former 77EB

I am using the early Corvette master on this Bronco, customers pick...

Here's my handy work. I LOVE the way it stops now!!!! Originally I used the Astro MC and it was too sensitive for my taste and the plastic looked out of place in my opinion. The MC I used is the same one 904Bronco used (Covette 78'). I just went with the BC Broncos adapter and mounted it straight on the fire wall. I had to cut the input shaft and lengthen it, but it wasn't too hard. You'll love the brakes when you finish!!! My Bronco stops better then my VW Jetta haha ;D

Good luck bro

Wilwood makes a master that has ports on both sides. Choose the side you like. I ran one on my last hydroboost system and really liked the Wilwood set-up. Super sharp looking too;) but expensive...:(.

yes it does

Looks better over here!

I wish I had seen that while I had the dash apart. it really solves a lot of problems, but I was finished with my HB install the first time I saw one moved to that side. Beats the hell out of crowding the engine or the silly angle bracket.

Located over there I could easily torque the lower intake manifold without removing the upper.

I may still do it. what all did you do with the pedal to make it happen? I have seen one where they weld a bar from brake to clutch to make one big pedal and connected it to the clutch pedal.

My experience was to use a 79 corvette master. I used it with disk front & drum rear for a while then converted to Cadillac rear disks. Worked just fine for both applications with no proportioning valve. Of course I had to have the brake line adapters for ford to Chevy. My HB is from Hydratec. My experience should be applicable to the Astro setup.
