Will a 4 speed toploader bolt right in place of the stock 3 speed, or would you need adapters or mods? Please let me know. Thanks!

Nope .. need to change the main shaft & machine the adapter housing . Most of the vendors sell the kit & explain the mods . BTW ... the top loader is a blast to drive ! ;D

I didnt have to change the main shaft on mine, I think that is a spline count issue. I did have to machine the tail housing so it adapts to the D20 properly though.
No change in cross members or mounts, the tranny/transfer combo ends up about an inch longer thank the 3 spd.

pretty much bolt in as the others have said the only other mod needed is a hole in the side of the tunnel for the shifter not a big deal if you already had a floor shift 3 speed. In the end a toploader 4 speed is no better than a stock 3 speed as gearing is pretty much the same with just a smaller jump between 3-4 than you have with the 3 speed 2-3 gearing.

I agree with the above statements. Mine came out of another Bronco so I didn't have to machine any parts though. Also I recommend getting the Duff's toploader shifter. I tried the AA kit and didn't care for it.
