Yukon Dura Grip broken spring... WTF?

So I pulled my front diff cover and found one spring broke in half and both pieces laying in the bottom and the pretty sure the one on the same side is broken too but it’s still in place. The unit is only a few years old and has only been wheeled a few times. I called Yukon and they shipped a new spring set. Any ideas what would cause it ? This is my front Dana 44.

Here are the pics just as I found it , and the spring shown is split. Again, I haven’t wheeled it hard. I’m going to have to pull to put the new springs in. Dam .... not happy over this one.

I'm using the Yukon Duratrack in the rear. Mine is the less aggressive two spring version.

I have to pull the whole unit to replace the spring, so just got finished pulling axles. Tomorrow I will pull it and put the 4 new springs they sent. I was hoping someone else had this issue and could tell me what could have caused it. Yukon didn’t know what could have caused it

Looks like you are extremely lucky to not have any spring pcs get btw the ring and pinion and destroy everything.

No clue why they broke...

Yes definitely lucky..,, since I couldn’t not find any info on putting these springs in I figured I could share how I got it done. I pulled the unit and removed the ring. I took the center rod out. Then I used two flat bars and compressed the springs. When they were fully compressed I used mechanic wire and held it together. I removed the flat bars and the whole spring set come out together. I compressed the new one and wired it the same way and installed it. I removed the wire and put the center rod back. The gears and clutched stayed in place.

I busted a axle U joint awhile back, I bet the springs broke then.

Torque load/transfer thru the side gears is the demise of the Detroit..
So I'll bet you're right, when that $25 joint blew you were lucky to not lose a $500 locker. Happens more often than most want to admit.

Seen lots of unbreakable stuff break from this, Detroit’s, ARB’s, OX locker’s, lock outs, basically anything bolted or spline shafted to an axle.

Funny story. A freind used to to have CJ with 38’s. Every time he’d lift at tire and get it to hop a little the tire in the air would snap back and forth and break the lockout, he could make it happen on demand in a hole at one of our favorite spots. He eventually built the first 14/60 for the front, the first I know of ever done, that was around 99.
