constructive criticism is knowledge, I'm fabricating as I go I have already bought some 2x4 square tubing for sleeves 6 inches in depth,
I Like your Idea of going right through, I think I will sleeve the back bolt from top to bottom, and put another one on top front,

I'm building bumpers too and have tried a number of combinations ranging from bent plates that sit on-top of the frame horns, to beams which pass through. In the end I did both, pass through and plated around the horns. Adds extra weight, but I feel sorry for the rock (or car) that creeps up on my bumper

Just the rear so far. That pic is just the sub-structure tacked together. The whole unit is skinned in 1/4" plate. It needs to be strong in order to support the hitch, shackle tow points, and a swing down tire carrier. Bumper is done (wont spoil your thread with any more of my pics) tire carrier is in the works. Then onto the front. Going to sink a winch between the rails too.

Here it is finished, I did end up putting square tube sleeving to tie up the horns of the frame, and needed to bend up the metal above the winch so the rope would not snag on it.
also added tow hooks on top behind the bumper horns...
I know the Yellow rope is loud but it was a gift that was laying around the garage.
