Was there a link to a Bronco you were looking at? the first few years of bronco's have some special unique features and as such some find more desirable. I have had a 66 and now own a 74. They are both Awesome. The later models had the more desirable Dana 44 front ends, available power steering / brakes and bigger engines. All of these can be retrofitted to the 66. It really all depends what you want to do with the bronco.

Welcome to the site. All depends on what you want in a rig.

PS, PW, Auto, Standard. Gonna be doing a little off and on road, or what? What's your goal?

Good luck

Hello All,
I'm thinking about buying a 1966 Bronco. Is there any draw backs from buying this 66?

Drawbacks? One more 6 and it'd be a devil Bronco ;D

Do you mean drawbacks of a particular Bronco or what I assume you mean are there drawbacks to buying a 66 as opposed to later models.

As stated above, there were certain characteristics unique to only the 66' that the 67-77's didn't have..........and there's a lot of sellers out there who don't know that, and new buyers that don't know that. A seller may advertise it as original, and ask more for it. Many times it won't be original, and seller may not even know what original is himself.

So if you're looking for original 66', post up some pics before you buy. A lot of members on this site can tell the year from looking at its shadow!! :) lol!

Good luck with your search!

If you want to restore it and keep it all 66 that can be the only real challenge depending on the current state of the one you buy. The 66 parts obviously are harder to come buy over the common years. Some of 66 parts are also more expensive over the common years. But in the end a 66 is cool for that factor one year only type of thing, or at least those of us who have 66 broncos think that...;D

thinking about....

The 1966 was unique in many ways. If you are going for the stock look:

Try to read up on as much as you can online and ask members here or you may find the 66 you bought has 1968 doors and electric wipers which required a different windshield frame, newer dash, bunch of new holes in the hardtop because the windshield frame holes dont line up anymore.

That being said, buy a 1966. Good Luck with your search.

The drawback is they are all money pits and are never finished!

No you shouldn't buy it, but to save you the trouble give their number and I will call them and let know :)

I've had mine for years now and the only things not to like are the vacuum wipers and gutless 170 6 cylinder. I'm real close to saying to hell with original and get an electric wiper kit from Wild Horses. They have a setup for early windshield frames. If I find the right truck cheap, a V8 and 5 speed also. Bumpers and hub caps go for a crap ton of money so maybe I'll use those to fund it. Its cool to have a 66 but I didn't buy it for that reason, it was the half cab.
