rear molded fender from the factory??

Hello-

I came across a 76 earlier today that had the rear molded steel flare. I've seen these before, but this guy swears it came from the factory that way. I've know him for awhile, and trust him, but has anyone else heard of that?

Yeah, that makes sense. It looked like original paint, and had the white strip like I've seen on other 76's.
