Playing around with rear wheel opening

I’m getting ready to take off the rear quarter and thought I’d play around with the opening a bit. I saw a post on here where this has been done before. I want to keep the uncut look. IMO it looks better. No offense.

My original quarters had the lip cut and rolled so that is why the blue tape is there to simulate the approximate location of what it should look like.

First I drew a line 2” up from the body line then drew a line 90° from this line far enough forward of the wheel opening to clear the body line around the opening. I then drew a line up 2” from the fist line and 1” forward of the second.

Then I used a cut off wheel and cut on the first two lines. I then clamped the section I just cut to line up with the second set of lines.

I did this to see what it would look like and how difficult it will be. I think I may just do this with the new quarters.

I know there will have to be some fabrication around the tail light and I will post some more pics when that time comes.

I like the concept - good luck and post up some pics when you get started on the new quarters.

Bax or somebody did a killer version of this year's back. If you or someone knows how to dust off that thread it might be of some help.

Your off to a good start but dealing with the rear Post makes it tough and altering tail light lenses are a problem too.

You got to get after that guy who let the air out of the bottom of your tire.

Man I do like that Bronco .
I was goin to say Look around for a tire the size you think you'll be running & put it on your bronco & Jack the front up out of Hillbilly heaven . Get a better opinion of how you think your going to like it.
But I do like what you've done so far.

Drew up some ideas for the tail light panel.

First drawing brings the body line around to the back all the way to the tail light. With roughly the same contour as it is originally just higher.

Second drawing is basically the same just tapered down from body line on the back by the light.

I’m kind of leaning toward the first one because it would be a simpler fabrication. I think if I cut the body line section and move it up and then make a filler piece that comes out from the tail light opening.

Opinions? Suggestions?

Me I would probably look at moving the wheel well like you have done but not move up the scallop on the rear part of the fender or the corner post. If you graft in the front section of the wheel opening from the other side of the fender and mirror it on both sides of the wheel opening I think it would look pretty good but you will loose that funky original swoop in the rear of the fender opening. But save yourself allot of headaches.

Well I thought I’d revive this thread. Finally got around to the tail light panel and got it welded up. I’m still a ways off from the quarter, but I’m getting there.
