Went to the U Pull It yard and they had a 97 V8 Explorer there. Someone had already grabbed the intakes. I got the fuel rail, serpentine brackets with PS/AC/alternator, metal fan (still attached to water pump) and the heater tubes. I wasn't able to get the damper and timing cover because I didn't have a puller.

The sprocket looking part of the damper got bent a little by trying to pry it off (I know, I did a dumb move by not using the correct tool for the job). Is the damper still usable or repairable? I already have a damper that Damper Dudes rebalanced for my 351W, but thought that it might be worth it to go back if the Explorer is still there by wednesday as this would give me a 2nd complete serpentine setup. I may go back anyway for the timing cover.

The heater tubes are missing the large bolt (where the sensor is) that screws into the lower intake, but otherwise is in great shape. Can the bolt off of the mustang heater tubes that I currently have work on the Explorer tubes? If not, any ideas?

Since it is 2:30 in the morning as I write this post and am way to tired to do a search, is a '97 Explorer one of the years that had the cylinder heads many people are after? I could go back and grab them if they are.

Thanks.........Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz Bronco

Not sure on the dampner, but you need the timing cover and the dampner needs to come off to get it.
I made a puller cause i could not find a decent one that works, i did but one that said it was for the explorer but did not work.

Heads 97 is when P heads were used, check the front for hash marks 3 is good 4 is p-heads i think there is also a "P" on there close by. ( double check my info )

Yeah 50/50 chance on the heads. The 97 explorers came with the non "P" heads the 1st few months of production, then switched to the "P"'s. As stated above, look for the hash marks, 3 marks are regular gt40's, and 4 marks are gt40P's.

I also had both sets of heater tubes and liked the Stang tubes better. The Explorer tubes have the nice bends leading to the heater core, but have no ECT boss in them. I cut the Stang tubes in the back about half an inch (right at the 2nd rib), and just used molded rubber hoses that I trimmed up a bit. I'm not sure you can remove the "big nut" on the heater tubes and easily install it on another set.
