Hi all, I'm thinking of using screws instead of rivets for my flairs when they go back on. Any pics of alternatives? Currently maroon body with black flairs and thinking of going stainless. I've done the search thing and didn't get much. Any help? Paul

Yes a few companys give you screws stainless would be nice. I've also seen a few people use machine screws with nuts on the inside but thats a little more work.

Jim at wildhorses had his warflares installed with sheet metal screws for a while - he may still. It looked cool, but the thing that threw me were the screws sticking into the wheel well if you looked from the back side. It was just kind of silly looking, almost like it was a temporary fix.

I was thinking that also about the inside. I 'm starting to lean toward machine screws w. nyloc nuts or something. Paul

we used stainless socket head allens with nylock nuts on scott's bronco, came out very clean looking. sorry, this is the closest pic i have of them. i used zinc coated lath screws on mine, they're holding up just fine several years after putting them on. down side is if you have to reach behind the fender for some reason, they can scratch or cut the hell out of you.

I used stainless screws with small (forgot the size) socket heads. They were short so they did not stick too deep behind the body panel. I bought a box of them at a local hardware store.

Use short #7 sheet metal steel screws......

Usually they are sold in #6 or #8 sizes but I found some in #7 at Home Depot and they have a unique head design.. Soak them in Corrosion Block for awhile before using them...

I have used the small #10 stainless socket button heads with nylocks, also used acorn nuts with the bolt through the inside, that is what I have on both of mine now. The blue halfcab has the socket head bolts. The stainless screws are simple and easy too though but yeah the inside leaves something to be desired.

i'm a big fan of all stainless parts. takes roughly just over 100 to do front & rear.
i moved away from rivets 20 some years ago as they do a great job of cracking your flares (old schoool) or tearing them up if you ever have to remove them.
with a bolt you can control the clamping force.

I use tress head allen screws and washers all SS, they look like the rivets when installed

Hi all. Wow, nothing like getting pics and all. Helps a lot when you can see before doing. What are "tress" head allen screws? Did you mean "dress" like the post below yours or something different?

Thanks all,

Paul

X2. These are especially usefull if your flares are painted.

I like 10-24 x 1/2" stainless button head's. 8-32's will work too, but the head is pretty small.

Here is a link to some tamper proof torx, but I prefer the allen head's like Nix pic. You can get them anywhere, I only used Lawson as an example because we use them at work and I'm more familar with their site. http://www.lawsonproducts.com/webap...STAINLESS////SCREWS////UserSearch=BUTTON+HEAD

Has anyone found anything in a black finish that holds up to the weather? Seems like the black finishes I've seen say they're not recommended outdoors.

My warflares shipped with self drilling/self tapping sheet metal screws. I do not like how they stick into the wheel wells and will be replacing them with something else. What that is has yet to be determined...

The black will eventually show some rust stain from my experience.

Also if you go to BoltDepot.com they have good prices on lots of 100 thats all you need. I got mine there. Usually ~ $12 for the 100 SS bolts and $5 for the nylocks.
