Looking to build one like House Of Diesel did on the The Red Label build. I am wanting to add a gas can as well as a jack and maybe cooler.

other than the obvious badass aesthetic factor of racks like this is there another advantage over the swing out tire racks that are standard?

you dont have lift the big heavy tire and wheel up 4 feet to hang it in the rack. You flip into the rack secure it and lever up the whole thing. It makes tailgate access a pain but with a 37" tire it helps.

Here is the one I built. Got the plate from poison spider and built around it. Holds a 39 with room to spare

Not having to worry about tire size is one. With a swing out you really need some beef in the spindle deparment to hold all the weight. I am going to eventually make mine swing out but the current one is just being built to work with my rear bumper I have now. Later on I will make a new bumper and canibalise this rack for a swing out style.

Gravy yours and house of diesel's racks seem to be just what I am going to build. I have duff armor and tree huggers that I will be adding in Sept so I will put the mounts on those and my D rings on the bumper.

Mine is similar to gravy's but I used a round plate and 3 studs to hold the tire to the carrier.

Offroad Design and other companies sell the tube and matching bushings and bolts for the upper and lower mounting points.

Even with my 35" spare there is no room for a cooler. You might be able to squeeze a gas can in if you build around it. My jack goes across the bottom just above the lower pivots.

Well the goal is to atleast get a gas can in there. I like the plate idea and I'll have to look at incorporating that into the design too.

Bump to the top. My setup lasted about 10 years before finally biting the bullet this weekend. I want to do a swing down/up tire carrier also.
