Will consider trades for 1966-77 Bronco

For sale is a completely rebuilt 400 Ford engine for 1978-82 Ford Bronco & 1977-82 Ford truck. Will directly replace 351M engine used in Bronco,Truck and Cars also.
I am a ASE certified master automotive engine machinist and built this engine for my personal 1979 Ford F-150 truck.
I sold the truck I planned to put this engine in so now I have no use for it.

These engines were originally not very powerful because of the low compression (8-1) because of all the emission laws in this era.
Increasing the compression like what has been done to this engine really brings them to life and can still run on premium grade pump gas.

Noting was spared on this engine.
Everything was cleaned and magnafluxed to check for cracks
Block was decked
Bored .030" over.
TRW/Sealed Power Forged Pistons 9.7-1 compression ratio
Speed Pro rings
ARP rod bolts, resized rods, converted to full floating on wrist pin end.
Crankshaft was turned .010 under on rods and mains.
Complete rotating assembly was balanced
New harmonic balancer and flex plate
Felpro gaskets
Comp cam and lifters
Cam has been degreed in
Cloyes double roller timing set

Heads have been completely rebuilt
Installed 16 bronze valve guides
Installed hardened exhaust valve seats for unleaded fuel
All new Manley valves
New comp cam springs, retainers & keepers
Converted to screw in studs and guide plates to make valve train adjustable
Comp cams roller tip rockers

Short block is assembled and heads are ready to be bolted on.

$2750.00

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Wow, those pistons must be something new? For a long time the piston selection really hurt the options of building a 400.

As far as I know there are still not many good quality options for direct fit Pistons to increase compression ratio of the 400 without having a custom set made.
We have had real good results running the setup that is in this engine which is a forged 351 Cleveland piston.
To run this piston you need to install wrist pin bushings in the small end of connecting rod for the smaller Cleveland wrist pin and machine snap ring grooves in the wrist pin bores of the Pistons to convert them to floaters.

Gotchya, I am aware of the Cleveland conversion, but was hoping there was another option nowadays. Used to be an outfit that made flat tops but they quit making them and the supply has long dried up.

Sounds like a quality build you have there, good luck with your sale!

TMI no longer makes any 400 pistons?

I dunno Ox, the ones I was referring to were made by a different company, Badger I think? There was a lot of discussion on PJB about them at one time.

I guess it didn't occur (or I didn't remember) that Tim was making pistons for these.

Just built a 400 using Keith Black pistons thru TMeyers. Very pleased with the outcome. They are great to deal with as well.
Sorry for the hijack as well
