I went to look at local Bronco for sale, and ended up buying it. I had no intention of buying, but, he kept insisting to make him an offer since he needed cash. So, stupid offer ended with Aug. 65 Budd body U14, 736xxx vin, in-line 6 three speed. My question to everyone is about the value of a Budd body, and what to do with it. It’s missing the halfcab, bulkhead, and seats. It needs work, and has sat in storage for decades. Minus the front floor pans, it’s in really good condition. It is a great candidate for a full restoration. Thoughts from all are welcome. Even the people that want to knock it...

Congrats on the find. There are a lot of Budd purists out there (including myself) who think they should be preserved if at all possible. Its a great purchase and looks to be Springtime Yellow, probably my favorite 66 color....oh and that front bumper is super desirable. I almost bought a beater 66 Bronco the other day just for the bumpers.

I've learned a lot about EBs over the past 20 years but haven't heard anyone speak of a Budd body bronco. Time to learn a little more I guess. What is the significance of a Budd body?

Congrats on finding the 66 U14. I’d restore it. Looks like a pretty good start.

Seat question...did it come with bench, or buckets? I've heard they were '66 Mustang seats? I'm assuming I can't get a Marti. (thanks for the photo edit)

Im often wrong but I believe the Broncos that came with bulkhead - U14 or U15 Delivery wagon - had bench seats only...buckets were for pass-through to rear bench. And yes the buckets were Mustang seats, passenger side needs the Bronco 'leg' to stand on :)

when I paid $5k for my 66 a few years back I did not realize the hubcaps, extra set of doors and 2 sets of bumpers were worth half the price

My 66 Roadster has the bulkhead and buckets. All factory stock. But then you could order them about anyway you wanted them.

Whats the trim code on the warranty plate? 197 is bench half cab and 797 is bucket half cab. Bench seats were standard on all the 66

The knowledge on this page is incredible! VIN tag has a 197, I wondered what that was. No additional goodies. The factory offset rear view mirror is wild. DSO is 72, or San Jose. That would explain the lack of rot. I’ll park it in the garage this weekend, and unfortunately will have to park my other Bronco in storage at friends for the winter. Still quite a few unknowns...
