Hey all I drove by this 66 bronco yesterday and talked to the owner and I will be meeting up with him tomorrow to look at it. I have his asking price but want to see what you guys think its worth. Its a 66 with a 289, recently rebuilt C4, everything else is stock besides the cut rears. As you can see in the pictures there is some rust.

The Good:
Says it runs well(will find out tomorrow)
New master cylinder
New starter
V8
New carb
New fuel pump
Has an extra tailgate and all glass for hard top
Its local to me which is hard to find around here anymore

The Bad:
Both rockers are gone
Bottom of tailgate is rusted through
Lots of dents
Front floors need to be replaced
Bent T-Case shifter
Tranny leak
Striker and door posts need to be replaced, patched at the very least

He also has the original rims, don't know about hubcaps yet.

Take a look at the pics and let me know what you think, if it runs and drives well I have a price in my mind, if it doesn't I have another price in my mind.

Got some good original 66' items still intact, and some that have been swapped.........but it's an original 66' v8 with a special order DSO (that will always remain a mystery :) )I'd buy it, nothing stands out that says run away unless he's asking a crazy price.

Looks like the transfer case shifter is original, just bent and tthe knob and threads were cut off.

Thanks Okie, I know little to nothing about 66 quirks, can you or someone enlighten me on them?

The rocker and floor pans are very easy to replace and cheap to buy, so don't let those two parts decide anything. I have bought several Broncos the owner sold cheap cause they considered them "Rusted out." because the floor pans and rockers rusted through is so visible. $200 later in sheetmetal from a vendor and a Saturday later I had a "Rust Free" Bronco. The front door post is the game changer as they are a son of a bitch to replace and have the door shut correctly afterwards.

And some advice on the dents/rust on body parts. Just buy a new hood, fenders, rockers, and floor pans and you will come out ahead money wise compared to a body shops charge of sanding the 7 layers of paint off and fixing the dents, rust, and cracks on those panels.

Offer $4000, site the $7,000 needed in body work. AND the obvious green paint to cover up an amazing amount of bad like rusted through tailgate. How much bondo dont you see cause of it? Tell him they would have been better leaving the paint alone.

Wheres the frame rail VIN picture?

66? I don't think thats a 66 hood? Missing braces underside? Look at hood on this one:

There's more than one style of 66' hood, the four brace rod hood being the early one.

Has been upgraded to a Dana 44 which is nice. The auto tranny is also an add from a later year.

I sold one in very similar condition to this two years ago for $5,000 and it took me three years to find a buyer at that price. Mine had nowhere near the rust this one has but every body panel was dented. Personally I think $7,500 is nuts. As was pointed out to me several times when I was trying to get $5,000 for mine, prices have gone up but that's for solid projects. Major projects like this one and the one I was selling have not seen the same increase. To me that's a $4,000 - $5,000 Bronco. The Dana 44 and C4 could make it worth more to the right buyer as could it being a '66.

Does it have clean title and title matches the frame? In California try finding one for less and its local Find a cheaper one out of state and then spend 1500 to have it shipped in? This is a pretty roached truck. But I like the 289, c-4 and dana 44 package. This may be a truck for a fiberglass body or new steel body or ass a really rough off road beater. But hell no for a restoration project. I would rather start with a rig with all its parts still attached this one will nickel and dime you to death. But if you do your own body work and painting may be you would want to step off the deep end. Instead of counting the bad parts count on what is actually usable. You will be counting on your fingers but I doubt you will include all your toes too.

Thanks guys I was thinking $4000, $5000 depending on how the mechanics are. Will find out tomorrow or Thursday. I will also check in the title and frame vin. Luckily I have a good buddy near by (Ben Ferrari) who could help with the body work if I decide to make an offer and it's accepted. I will keep you posted thanks for the replies.

Great catch, makes you go hmmmm. Put $1,000 in the bank to pay to have that fixed.
