Here is a better view of how I spaced the sub from the panel. I'll find the specific model of the sub I got so you know the depth.

That picture is helpful. So it looks like you spaced the sub out 1.5" and then used the rest of the cavity behind the interior quarter panel. Was the sub just barely not hitting the sheet metal? I would think the distance from the sheet metal to the top side of the interior quarter panel is at least 2.5", so a 4" deep sub would work.

Thanks in advance! This is very helpful to me.

Yep, the spacer was 1.5" and the sub depth was 3.5". Here is the sub I used. Good luck

Thanks to engelwoodcowboy for the recommendations on a new engine build. Picked up a '96 explorer 5.0 roller
Block and had it rebuilt stroked 347 with the GT40 heads, edelbrock Performer intake and used the serpentine setup.

Early on I had no intention of replacing the motor so when I did the body and paint job I didn't do anything to the engine or bay. No surprise to everyone on this forum, I caught the addiction and "HAD" to upgrade motor. Did things out of order but ended up pulling the motor and painting the engine bay in my garage. It turned out OK for my first time but wish I would have done it all at the same time when I did the initial paint job.
