very cool! did you build the engine side mounts? also is there an adapter that allows the ford bell housing to bolt to the 4BT? or is that something you did? then what flywheel?

One of the engine mounts is factory that I had to tweak the angle a bit. The passenger side I had to make a new mount. If I used the stock mount I would have had to cut the frame.

Most of the 80's and 90's 4bt were re powered from Cummins. They made the adapter to fit both the Ford bell housing and the Cheby stuff. With the Cummins adapter and flywheel I can use a Ford pressure plate and disk. I did use a different disk because of the NV4550. It came with the NV3550 install kit.

The only trouble I had was that I could not find a pilot bearing or bushing to fit both the flywheel and transmission. I ended up buying some sintered bronze and having it machined to fit both.

call clutches unlimited in huntington beach CA, 714-373-6155. give them your crank ID and input shaft OD (3/4") and see if they can come up with something for you. they have 2 pieces i can use on my 3550 to make a pilot ROLLER bearing instead of the current bushing, it'd run me about $23 and some labor.

were you able to use a diaphragm style pressure plate, or do you have to use a 3 finger style?

Nice looking work .. I think I spent as much time on my front cross member as any thing I did. Looked like your going to use a manual clutch not a slave set-up ..I sure wish I had my 5 speed in mine, but my NP435 was already installed and I knew it'd work ..
.......
..Yours must not be turned up yet when I give mine the gas ''fuel'' It puts out a ton of smoke....But they are noisy .. But still fun to play with.
..........
..What kind of springs are you using up front mine has Rancho 3'' lift stiff but holds the weigh of the motor.
.....
.......Good looking work.

I have the Tom's progressive springs. I figured I would run them for a few hundred miles and then see how the bronco sits and go from there.

Well its not moving as fast as the posts are popping up. I have been working on it since late 2008 and have been collecting pictures so I can start a build thread then I won a contributors status and here I am.

Good guess on the Spanish Springs area.

I can relate, my frame is suspended by two engine stands right now with a pair of mog axles under it, engine, trans., and t-case are in front of it. Should be able to cut the frame anyday to extend it and have one of the rear doors partially done for the 4 door conversion. I will say I thought about a 4BT but my 351 is pretty low mileage.

did u do the frame? is it paint or por 15 or something else? it turned out nice

I had the frame sandblasted and I used Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Satin. It seems pretty durable so far.

I think I will wait until and see if I waste the 3550. I am already at the max torque for the transmission. Then we will talk about a twin turbo.

i know of several people exceeding the max torque of the NV3550, myself included. doubt you'll have a problem unless you max out the GVW and push it like i did once.
