OK guys -- looking for ideas for a rear storage deck. Something just above wheel well height that will allow storage bins underneath and out of site, but allow other stuff stashed on the deck and easy to get to. Show me what you've done... Here's a pic of one of the many options for the heeps... and another of the back of my EB. I need something that allows the black/yellow bins to be stored underneath.

Snoop around on Expedition Portal - you might find some good ideas there.

Good idea. I found this -- like the Pack Rat I had in my chase truck, but only weighs 100 lbs and about 1/2 the price. I've got to check dimensions tomorrow, but looks like it might fit nicely in the EB.

Here is a couple of ideas, the pic with the flat shelf with top side tie downs, looks easy enough to make.

I use the full size truck fenderwell tool boxes and still had room for the OEM rear seat. Before I changed the roll bar design....

thanks! I've thought about those fenderwell boxes - maybe the one's for a small truck would fit in the EB and allow the gate to close? I'll check that out.

Coach, I use 4 pelican cases between the wheel wells. I'll get the number off them when I get home.

I am using 4 each 1610 Pelican cases. They are lower than the wheel wells, so if you wanted to run a platform/deck across the back you could. When they aren't in the bronco each one of my boys and I use them for dry boxes on our winter canoe trip.

wow 4 of those Pelican cases are expensive .. I googled them 184.50 each .
But those would be nice.
I found a black case only about $20.00 when I 1st built my Bronco & I boltedit to the floor . I had jack & tools in it .. But when we went hunting in it to New Mexico my running buddy just insisted I take it out .. HE SAID IT TOOK UP WAY TO MUCH ROOM. So It's been out every since. He just hates my half cab. I LOVE IT.

Pa, each one also had a handle/wheel kit with it (extra heavy duty roll around luggage)I removed those. They are expensive, but serve 4 different purposes for me.
Bronco storage, canoe dry box, luggage, and I use them on the "expedition" camping trailer I built.

I've ordered one of the Smittybuilt Cargo Boxes in the picture above. I think it's going to be perfect for what I'm looking for, and will allow space for a couple of HDX yellow top boxes (from Home Depot) also. I'll post up pics when I have it all put together in a week or so.

This showed up today - dimensions look good, seems sturdy and I’m going to try to use rear seat bolt holes to mount it.

Looks great! All kinds of Baja prep going on at Casa de Barnes.

I’m pretty jazzed about this box! I think it’s just the ticket and didn’t break the bank. I actually love the “prep” for a trip like this! I think a few of the “herd of Broncos” that are making the trip probably think I’m a nut job, but once Jan comes around, the clock ticks fast - as you well know! Randy hooked me up with this protofab rear setup - I like it.

Just another idea...

This might not be large enough for you but I built two locking, rain proof boxes between the wheel wells back in '00. They are HD as the Vista fold and tumble seat bolts to it at stock height and the seat belts also attach to them. I usually strap two ice boxes behind the seat one for food/snacks overnight (hopefully not needed provisions) and the other holds clothing and keeps them dust and rain free. I've gotten older (actually, my wife loves the comfort of heat and less wind) so I don't run the bikini top year round anymore-12 yrs straight till I built a custom 1/2 cab with windscreen canvas instead of the normal steel back.

They are wheel well to wheel well width, and 3/4 of each top hinges upward (worked perfect for my needs). I didn't want to lose the space with rollers and have to deal with stuff falling behind or off the sliding shelf. The front box holds spare parts that I seldom if ever need-axles, drivelines, ujoints, hub tools, ARB line, electrical, etc. The rear box extends to the tailgate and holds recovery stuff, plus small tools. I keyed them both alike with deadbolts the same as my house. POR'd them back then and they work great. I had to narrow it to fit the new wider wheel wells now with the new suspension/ORI build.

My Golden Retriever and my wife's dog get the area behind the front seats to the cooler area.

The Smittybilt box fits great. I decided to move it toward the seats so I could put a couple of totes near the back for quick lift gate access. Moving it forward also allowed me to use the rear seat mounting hardware to bolt it in. I’m pretty happy with this.
