Got my brake warning light working!

The bulb had a purple/white and orange wire leading from it, so good start. Traced the purple wire to the firewall and then found it just ended in the engine bay not connected. Tested it, 12V, sweet. The switch on the proportioning valve was not connected to anything, so I spliced it to the purple wire. The orange wire from the bulb got lost into a bundle, but I hoped it ran to the ignition switch. The “P” tab on the ignition switch did not have anything connected, so I ran a wire from there through the firewall to the proportional valve switch (used the same splice). I wired it per the diagrams ASSUMING the purple and orange wires were still factory correct. Started the truck hoping to see the bulb test while in START and nothing. Bummer, at least I tried. My wife drove later that day and said the BRAKE light came on when she started and then it went out. Yippee! It works. Comes on nice and bright as a test during every start now. Not sure why it did not the first time.

Next step is to buy a switch for the parking brake and run that to the P tab and ground so the light comes on when parking brake is depressed. I was reading this thread:

http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=263832

and bought the switch in post #20. $20 for a small cheap part! Got home and my parkaing brake looks nothing like the pic in post #10, so wouldn’t work anyway. Couldn’t take that overpriced switch back to the store fast enough. My Radio Shack closed, so I’m going to buy a long-lever switch off Amazon and use that.

Wrapped 50% of exhaust using muffler wrap or tape. Used hose clamps to secure. Looks OK.

Pretty productive for just having my son’s nap time to work with.

I hear you on the nap time work! I get about an hour every Saturday and Sunday but my garage shares a wall with the kids rooms so I have to plan on doing silent work...cardboard cutting is a good one, I'll have to remember that one.

Removed the stock hood, cleaned up the engine bay and removed the windshield. Need to move the latches and hinges from the steel hood to the new fiberglass hood

Stopped by Lowes and found some plastic channels that I can glue down into the bed rails to bring it flat for the vinyl interior. They are 8' long x 1.5" wide plastic base moldings for Screen Tight Doors

Man you can eat off those valve covers. What spark plug wire set and holders do you have??..Mine aren't long enough to go infront of the valve covers like that. And since I have the same covers I would like to show them off. Thanks

 I learned I have to take the Dana 44 axle I thought was completely done apart, one more time because the 35 spline RCV axles don't fit in the stock axle seals so I now have to order Dana 60 axle seals. I should have thought of it but I just flaked. Ugh

Valve covers are basically brand new. Maybe 500 miles on them haha. Prior owner did the wires and holders. Ill take a closer look this weekend and see what I can find out

Darrell that WH kit looks good. Nice install.

All I did was weld up holes in the engine bay to get ready for paint. Moving all the wires into the fenders so the bay should be clutter free.
