A different kind of build thread

I admire you guys that build their own broncos. I’d love to do that one of these days but I don’t know if I’ll ever have the time. I work hard running a business and don’t have much time. I don’t have a shop or the tools I’d need or the knowledge to do one on my own. Plus it would take me ten years to do it and I’m not that patient. However, I am blessed with a pretty good income and have made some good investments that has allowed me to hire someone to build one for me. A lot of people on here have asked what restoration shop is good so I thought I can enlighten some who have questions. After seeing a Bronco in person that was done by Nicks Trix about 2012 I decided that if I ever got mine re-done it would be done by Nick. I first contacted him in 2013 and he told me he was booked thru 2015 but if I wanted an appointment he could get me in after that. I told him no at the time. In 2016 I contacted him again and went to see his shop. I was impressed with his process so I booked my appointment for fall of 2018. He required a refundable deposit. He said if life changed by then just let him know and he’d send my money back. He emailed me in September of 2017 and said he’d gotten some room in his schedule and wondered if I’d be willing to start mine a year early. I said sure and within two weeks there was a truck and trailer at my door picking up my bronco. It arrived to him on Friday September 29 and on Tuesday October 2 I received the following pics.

By November 3rd the body was back from burn and blast. It was a very good body that only needed a dent taken out of the fire wall and an old patch on the driver side floorpan replaced. And just a few other small places fixed

Nice. I was like you BUT I decided to do it myself when I had time. I was fortunate to have some skills and a lot of tools though. On year 6 now and almost done. Nick is a fantastic choice, but he's part of the reason it's taking me 6 years. EVERY time I see one of his builds it gives me ideas and puts me behind schedule on mine as I try to incorporate them in. He's also a great guy, ALWAYS answering questions I had. The good news is I think mine is now about as nice as something he might build, at least I hope it is. You have chosen wisely. Can't wait to see what he's doing to yours - maybe before I'm finished so I can be behind schedule again. I know you won't be disappointed and will think it was worth the wait.

Sorry but it takes some time to keep going back and forth getting dates and adjusting pics so they load right. But these are from the visit I made on November 21. Look at the detail. I’m sure some of you do it just as good but it takes a lot of time. I’m sure I would get disgusted and end up settling for something less

By January 22 paint and tub liner was done. All through this I can’t tell you the number of updates I got from Nick. He answered every text immediately I ever sent him and has recommended things to me when I had stupid ideas. He’s very cost conscious like when I told him I was looking at a hydro boost he told me I wouldn’t need it. Bigger calipers on the front and properly adjusted drums on the rear would work just fine with 33’s.

That is going to be real nice when it is finished. Looks like Nick is doing a fantastic job. Good to hear there are people still concerned about their customer. Ken

By February 8 reassembly has begun. Keep in mind that 95% of the parts are my original parts. They’re stripped and replated. They look like brand new. I told Nick that whatever he needs to buy just buy them but he said the original ford stuff is much higher quality and if mine was bad (like my ring and pinion was) he had some used stuff he could use. On February 10th (a Saturday) I got a picture and text that my engine was ready

On February 15th the engine was mounted and the body was put back on the frame. I can’t tell you how excited I am to get pics from nick each week. The wiring harness was one thing I needed since mine was brittle plus I’m going with Holley sniper EFI. I also went with AC since mine had dealer installed AC originally although that had been removed by PO. Notice the welds on the electric box Nick built.

tug, thanks for starting your thread. everyone loves pictures! it's been great dealing with you. good clients are always a pleasure and are the ones that somehow become longtime friends. it's really cool how the bronco can open the doors to so many friendships.

we have progressed well on the build for sure. caught some good windows on getting things through the subs & they have been johnny on it. we've been able to get all hands on deck some days which helps expedite things too. soon we will be ready to head into interior shop which is impressive. you have to love it when the stars all align for you.

we've done some nice updates on the truck. the body was in great shape, needing just a few tweaks and repairs, that really helps expedite through body shop. the cold weather didn't help at times but body man has knocked it out. it's all nicely sealed up now and ready to last the next 50 years in style.
with the power train all fresh and in good shape the bronco should be a really nice cruiser for you. having a/c in it and a nice interior will make it that much more enjoyable. our hand crafted cage will keep you safe which is always important.

it's always fun to deal with clients that are "into it" and can appreciate the countless hours of hard work, planning and care that goes into crafting a build for them. it's a passion for sure.

cheers!
N
