I have been struggling with getting the Warn locking hubs put back on. Anyone have some tips that make them easier to assemble?
I took them out of a 72 Bronco with dana 44 drum brakes. Puttingthem on the same axle with a f150 disc conversion. The problem I am having is that the gear won't go back in the hub far enough to get the snap ring to seat. So the outer hub will not fit in the hole.
I got the locking hubs on. Thanks to Bill modifing them they fit and work perfect.I also got the rear backing plates cleaned up and painted. I bought new rear brake hardware it should be here Tuesday. I hope to have the brakes put on this week and get this thing off the jack stands and on its own tires.
Last night we got the rear brakes done, put tires on and set it on the ground for the first time.I didnt get any pics, but Bill did. maybe he will post some up....
I am going to spend some time going over the whole thing looking for things I have missed, torque all the bolts one more time etc.... should be putting the tub on sometime next week.
So, we have the Bronco on all fours and it even rolls!! (baby steps)
Next is getting the rolling chassis over to the other garage for the colder months and maybe I can shoe-horn my Bronco in the garage for some highly anticipated upgrades and creature comforts!! (wishful thinking, I know)....... We'll see
I got the drive train moved into the garage over the weekend. It is a lot easier to heat a garage, than it is a whole barn without any insulation. I Snapped a couple pics of both my Broncos sitting side by side. The tub pictured is the "spare Parts" tub. so we moved it over to the other frame right after this pic was taken. I don't have any pics because It got dark to fast...... but it looks like it is going to be a pretty sweet LUBER. I'll post up some pics this week.
I am waiting on some parts so I have a little time and started working on my dash. I grabbed the biggest piece of junk dash I have and started cutting the crap out of it. Somebody removed the speaker grill and did a rediculous glove box mod to fit around the roll cage. I am going to fix it Stutsmo stile....hopefully the next guy will like it!
Thanks guys! I am pretty happy with the way things are comming together. It never seems fast enough..... but I can't complain too much because a few months ago these were just a bunch of rusty parts sitting and taking up space in my Barn. Now they are being put to good use and it is looking like it is going to be a head turner when I get it done.
Indeed! The pictures dont lie..... alot of work has been done and some one is going to end up with a pretty nice looking Luber when it is all said and done.
I got some pieces of the dash tact into place. I moved the glove box opening over 4.25 inches. and I got rid of the poor speaker grill patch job and the whole for the radio. I also removed the ashtray. I want a clean look for this dash. I started to weld some of it up then decided to wait on bill to do the rest of it. here are some pictures.....
Bill came and saved the day ....got the dash welded up. Ill get some flap disc today and grind the welds .plan is to sandblast it the take to work to get it powdercoated for free....should be good as new if not better.thought I took some pics but I didn't. Ill post some when I get home from work.
I haven't been getting a lot done on this the past few weeks. I went out tonight and did some grinding on the dash welds. The dash is turning out pretty good. I decided I am going to move the switches on the left of the steering column over to the right of the steering column to make room for a possible roll cage. That will be tomorrows project..... Here are some pics.
Today I decided I am going to have this Bronco running good enough to move back and forth between my Barn and garage by the end of this year. Problem I am having is my welder and air compressor are in the Barn and it makes it slow going not having those 2 tools handy. It has been almost a month since I moved it to the garage and I haven’t really touched it since…. Time to get off my butt and get it done. I keep coming up with more ideas on simple improvements I would like to have in a Bronco, which will make it a better Bronco in the end….but it is sure making the work more tedious.
Just throwing it out there that if any one likes this Bronco enough to buy it. I’ll gladly sell it before it is finished. Make an offer. The point of this build is to sell it so I can get my Bronco that I have a stupid amount of money into finished up.
