I find it amazing there towing it on an open car trailer, for even back then.

How would you even begin to think what a car with that history would bring at an auction.

P.S, looks like they pulled the hubcaps also. Maybe for some hard cornering?

Ford had some of the best people in the world and millions of dollars to throw at trying to win. They spent more money than anyone ever thought they could to try and figure out how to beat Ferrari. If you know the whole story and history behind it, it is really was just an ego trip that Henry Ford had to satisfy. Ferrari did what Ford couldn't for years and years with little money and little manpower. I do love the gt40 tho. Thanks to that ongoing battle in the 60s we have a great story in motorsports history to look back on and some incredible cars to drool over.

Yeah ford was set to buy Ferrari but Ferrari didn't want to give up control over it's racing so they folded on the deal which pissed Ford off... The guys that do "the grand tour" former "top gear" hosts did a good story on it too.
