You don't need extra man.. rough it :)

Headed on a Great North Maine Woods trip over Memorial week. I have a 23 gallon tank but really should take 10 extra gallons just in case. I've seen some pretty cheap looking gas cans and some more expensive NATO cans.

What is everyone using? Feel free to post up pictures of your gas can carry rack too.

Thanks.

Unless I find some really nice steel cans at a reasonable price, plastic it will be.

Sent from my SM-G900V

I ordered one from the seller I linked. Showed up a couple of days ago. Essentially brand new. Still has the US Gov. requisition sticker on it. That's the cheapest I have ever found them in that condition.

yes, they have the air spout, thats the tube that is stickn down, if you are talking about these https://www.pinzgauer.com/showdetails.php?cat=unimog&partno=SAV4220

this is the spout I have along with the Swiss NATO can, you can empty a full can in less than a min

We had a Swiss can fall off the back of a Bronco out in Death Valley, the Bronco was going 45 mph and when we came back and found the can it was sitting upright in the middle of the road with zero leaks!!

Ha, well lets see. I have a 23 gallon tank and will probably get 10MPG on the back roads. Lets round the tank up to 20 gallons and say we can go 200 miles on a tank. Round trip after the last gas station is 275 miles. So an extra 10 would be just about right.

So, building a tire rack and a gas can rack. I have my choice of 2" square 1/4 wall tubing, 1.5" square 3/16 tubing or 1"x2" x 3/16 tubing. I was planning on just using the 2x2x1/4 but that stuff is heavy! Maybe use that for the lower run off the spindle hub and then use the 1.5x1.5x3/16 for the rest. Comments?

I sure wouldn't use the 1/4" either, being square you can go a lot thinner. got pics of what you have in mind

Only pics are in my head. Something simple, right side swing out for spare tire and maybe a hi-lift jack now and then, left side sing out that will be removable for gas cans, cooler or whatever.

I have a set of these spindles and had them milled down to fit in a 1 1/4" trailer receiver so the one for the cans/cooler can be removed.

My lower tube and center upright are 1/8. Angles are thinner tube (.095 maybe) because I had it. More than rugged enough with that 35 and the hi-lift on there.

Is the bottom straight or shaped to match the bumper?

Just curious, my bumper is pretty straight.

It's angle matched to the bumper. A few more shots during the build.
