BFG AT's 33 x 9.50 x 15

I have a set of (5) brand new , never mounted BFG AT's 33 x 9.50 x 15 that I was planning to use on my (sloooow) 1973 Land Rover Series III 88" wagon rebuild project. I've also liked the looks of this tire size on the EB (i.e. Toodd Z in AZ years ago) . However , right now I'm quite happy on 33x12.50's and can't see changing over.

So either way, I'm still a long way off from using them. Someone has offered to buy all of them from me, and I'd be willing to sell them to get some garage space back , but I cannot seem to find anyone selling this tire size any longer. Has this size become obsolete? I know Kelly Tire Co. used to have them?

Yes, the tall skinny tires have become obsolete. A real shame. I always liked the look. How old are they?

Good to hear from you, Talbot! Yes - I like the pizza cutter look too. BFG stopped making the 33/9.50s a number of years ago but they still make the 33/10.50s.

After my last set wore out in the early 00's, I went with 35/12.50s and ran them for many years. If more of us were honest about the type and frequency of 'wheeling that we do with our trucks, we'd find the smaller tires do just fine and exert a lot less stress on driveline components in the process. I've since gone to 17" wheels with metric-sized tires that are slightly smaller than the 35/12.5 size and when they wear out, I'm going back to 34/10.50/17 BFGs and getting back to my pizza cutter roots!

I really like the 33 x 10.50 15`s on my rig, road manners are much nicer than the wider tires I tried running .and the 33`s with the 4.11 gearing works very well for what I run through

I'm a fan of the tall skinny tire as well. Would love to see the 9.5 come back

Something to consider is that tires do have an expiration date and many tire shops will refuse to mount or rotate them after that date.
If you aren't going to use them it would be best to pass them along before you end up throwing them away.

As soon as funds equate, I'll be moving from 35x12.5x15" to Mickey Thompson LT 255/85R17"= 34.8"x 9.8".

Are those not 255/80-17?
I've run those before on my F150's. The 85 series sidewall was usually on the 16" rim.

33-9.5-15's on the neighbors Yota I built in the shop. Stock 6" wide rims so they really pull in nice. He says it drives real good too despite no P/S.

I've posted this pic before, but...
32x10 bfg's on stock wheels. Drives nice with manual steering. Tires are only a couple years old, and should be still available.

I've been reading all about how the metric size tires are basically just tiny size diff and quite a bit cheaper!
I run Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 265/75R16 on my 19 Tacoma. And drive in mtns regularly (Wash St). Awesome Tires.
My 73 LilBronc has worn BF Goodrich 35x12.5, 4:56 gears, Eaton True Trac lockers F n R. 3.5" lift. I'll need new wheels say's the awesome wifey. so I checked Mickey Ts web site.
They offer a A/T LT255/85R17 =34.6x 9.8. I really want to try narrower tires for steering ease, road noise, snow on road traction and fuel mileage.

Narrower tires do not automatically mean, quieter, or better fuel economy. It’s all about the individual tire itself.
Not just the physical size, even though that’s part of it.
But I think it’s a pretty cool size. My 79 has 255/85/16 tires on it. Taller than my last 35s, but narrower.
Also, probably the noisiest tires I’ve ever owned, save for the super swamper Thornbird‘s perhaps.

I think I'm going to go with 315x70R17 on mine. Is that the stock size on the 6G? Tire store here has them for $220 ea. Goodyear Wrangler territory MT.

Yes, that's the stock size on the Sasquatch 6Gs and the Raptors.
