Anybody got any good pics of a setup for a straight six power steering setup. I am about to install the one I purchased used and I need to know how it goes. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi, back then more 6 cylinder Mustangs had power steering. Check them out to see how Ford mounted the pump. Back then Mustang power steering was a slave cylinder under the drag link, not a power steering box. I wouldn't be surprised if Ford never offered power steering with the 6 cylinder. Good luck

Buy the Borgeson bracket for a Saginaw pump. All inclusive mounting and tensioning. 1,000 times better than the crap bracket and tensioning system BC sells.

I've got an OEM box installed with the pump setup above with custom lines to the hydrobooster.

Frame side, just like any other Bronco power steering. Doesn't care about what engine is under the hood.

Engine side, look at cars that had the I6 and power steering. Start collecting all the brackets and pulleys. Ford is known for the accessory drive to be a package and not piecemeal.

Low pressure hose is generic (make sure it is power steering and/or transmission cooler hose, not fuel hose).
Pressure hose will take a touch of creativity. Something with the right ends for both the pump and the steering box that is the right length and the ends are the right shape or can be bent a little into the right shape.

My Running Buddies 66 BRONCO. iT HAD a 200 cid from a Mustang 1st. I found him a Power steering pump from a 250cid Maverick. I also got the carb.
... It worked great . I also found him a 6 turn gear box. He's a MillionAire but he didn't want to spend the money to have it made a 3.3 or 4.0 turn box. So I let him steer it in New Mexico for about 8 hours in the mountain. He's been a slow learner but he does understand that the 3.3 box is easier to use in the Hills of SANTA FE Ish .
.... But yes Power Steering is always a great swap. .. & His 1st pump was the old Thompson Pump.
Any P/S beats El Manual ...

I like the factory Ford brackets off of a mustang, falcon, fairlane, etc. I run a saginaw pump on mine.

I run this pump, Cardone 20-6244. Unfortunately it's been discontinued for several years now.

What I am concerned about is the pulley’s. In regards to the fan pulley to the harmonic balancer to the pulley on the power steering pump. My set up came with a pulley on the power steering pump and another pulley that looks like it goes on top of the harmonic balancer. Does this mean I will have two belts. Looking at some of your pictures you guys are only running one belt. This is where I am confused.

Yes, two belts. One on crank, water pump, alternator. The other to crank, water pump, steering pump.

Yes, 2 belts. A standard V-belt is only good for 2 or 3 shafts (not counting any idlers). Since you will have 4 shafts (crank, water pump, alternator, power steering) you will need 2 V-belts to drive everything. The actual layout can vary. Alternators may get spaced differently. Thus my recommendation to get a complete package from a single donor source. In general Ford is real bad about making unique accessory drive packages for each combination of accessories.

So do I need to buy an adapter to go on my fan blade to make it to where it can handle 2 belts as well as the adapter that hooks to my harmonic balancer?

So this is what I have. The pump is in the bag. It has a pulley. The black is my original fan pulley, the rusted is my Harmonic balancer and the silver is the pulley that came with the kit. I’m guessing that the pump will mount in the two holes that are on the side of the engine in pic #3. The other pic is a shot of the front of the motor. This is a Borgeson kit.

Get a set of dual groove pulleys from a Falcon with a 170. I've used them on every 6-cyl Bronco I've converted to power steering.

I have heard that installing power steering on a straight six will rob it of 15% power. You guys that have power steering on a straight six have you noticed this. My fear is I will be running 33's and if I steel 15% more power by adding power steering am I even gonna be able to go down the road LOL!!!

15% loss of power seems a little high. I didn’t notice much of a power loss after adding it. I’m only running 30x9.5’s though.

Thanks for the images BC. I would think that 33's are not that much bigger than 30's but I could be wrong. I hope its not that big of a loss.

I've got a little different setup.
250 6cyl with PS out of a 76 Maverick.
The Maverick PS should work on a 170 or 200.

ps brackets

It has been several years ago that my ps was added so I could be wrong but I seem to remember that the stock 200 ps bracket was different than the stock 250 as in not interchangeable. 15% seems too high for a loss.
It is a great upgrade though! To go with your new ps I can definitely recommend disc brakes also.
