Today was Saturday, so I worked on my stuff - Sweetie
Sweetie is my most recent Bronco purchase. It is a '77 Silver Ranger that I have known since the early '90's. I bought it two weeks before the SuperCelebration, so I have no had the time to do much of anything with it. We took it to the show (trailered), and while there the trans started pouring, so since the show I have built the trans and the carb, but thats it. This Bronco is 70k documented miles and the underneath was slick as a whistle. (My first trip to look at it: I pull to the PO's place and get my creeper and a flashlight out to look!) This truck was as clean as any I have looked at! No sign of any issues.
Well, you know with old Broncos, you never know exactly what to expect sometimes! Before the purchase, I throughly inspected the bottom, but I didn't remove the carpet.....The owner doesn't like it much if you walk up with a screwdriver and start dismantling his Bronco! Anyhow, I knew I need to remove the original carpet and clean and repaint the floorpans.
Here in the south, because of the humidity and temperature changes things tend to 'sweat'. I don't have to explain any more because know what I discovered. The carpet was glued down and the jute backing had started to adhere via rust to the floor pans. The main issues are on the drivers and passengers floor pans.
The glue was exceptionally hard to remove. The best way I found was with a twisted wire wheel on a 4.5" grinder. Looks like for sure one pan replacement, possibly two!
