I'd like to get your thoughts on the direction of my 66

My 66 is rusted big time (inner front clip has rusted away). It was a snow plow. Currently has the stock 170, dana 30 uncut and rusty.

Options I'm considering:

1. Use a 76 front inner clip from a donor, along with the disc brake dana 44 and 76 9"and maybe a 2" suspension lift. And replace the 6 with a 302 and c-4.

2, Also considering full width axles, 351w, full width axles and a c-6. Along with these a 3" suspension lift and 2" body lift.

The bronco will be used for everything and may possibly continue to snow plow with it.

Anyway, I wanted to see what everyone thought of either option. Restoring it to a show truck is not an option due to project funds. I do have nearly everything to bring either option to fruition.

Thank you in advance, I'm eager to hear your thoughts.

I would list in the for sale section, with an option to trade for later year EB. If you have everything to restore it to original 66 condition (if I'm reading your post correctly) someone may be willing to pay more for yours than you can purchase an EB that can "be used for everything" good luck

After watching Matt’s Garage melt down due to the rust rebuild I have to say unless you have a big budget, it may be time to sell. And I do not say that lightly.

But given the condition and where you want to go with it, it doesn’t make sense. It’s like you want a house in Texas but you’ve got a condo in New Jersey.

I'm with the other guys - Don't go get caught in the fix-it-up-'cause-I-have-it rabbit hole. It's way deeper and pricier regardless of who does the work. In your shoes, I'd look for an abandoned project from someone who has to escape the rabbit hole.

If it has all the 66' year only items, and they are in decent to good shape, there's pretty good chunk of change sitting there just in parts.

If it's that rusty, agree better not go down that rabbit hole. Boy do I know. I also have a 66, very, very rusty and shot drive train. I thought I could replace just a few panels but once the outer sheet metal was off the rust is even worse than I could imagine. I have to replace all floors, floor braces, all door posts, rockers, rear lower quarters, one side also the upper quarter, doors, tail gate so far. And the front clip is pretty rusty, most likely need that too. I would have been better off with another one or complete new tub but too late for that now.

New steel tubs go for what 12K or so.

While that seems and is a big hit (and it is), the time and trouble saved are more than worth it IMO

Stay out of the proverbial rabbit hole...aka don't open the can of worms...I thought I could do what your thinking and I ended up building a new tub from scratch....things just got worse the more I opened it up!
