Was at the Tucson pull=a=part just as they were bringing a 1980 Mustang 5.0 HO out on to the lot (2:30pm). Super clean engine, hit hard in the ass is the obvious reason it's in its new home. If I had time and room I'd have got to work pulling it myself, but i've committed to a Explorer swap and I don't have the time. So if one of the Tucson Bronco family is in the market and can act fast, it's probably a great deal.

Ya, that's the place. I don't imagine it'll last the weekend, I've never seen one with the engine still in it there before.

I think 1980 mustangs 5.0 HO s only had 157 hp. And 1980 also had that funky 4.2 liter v8 that had like 120 hp

I did not know that. I popped the hood expecting no engine and was surprised to see such a clean one. I took the distributor water-proof cover and the upper intake name plate which said 5.0 HO. I checked the yards sticker on the quarter panel that said 1980 and told myself to let it go, you have no room for another engine.

Ford did not put the 5.0 in Mustangs in 1980 or 1981 and did not build SEFI 5.0 engines (the ones with the plate on the upper intake) until 1986, so that engine was swapped in not original.

Good point if it was fuel injected. It was swapped motor.

Also, anything before 1985 was flat tappet instead of hydraulic roller. But if it has EFI I'd say the entire block was swapped for a later one.

Definitely fuel injected, upper intake was identical to the Explorer 5.0 except for the 5.0 HO plaque and it was old enough to still be using a distributor. Just figured if someone had their heart set on a Mustang 5.0 as apposed to the Explorer, this one looked clean and probably ran assuming the rear end collision was its demise. Wish I knew more, I'd go back and scavenge some sell/trade able parts.

probably just had a fi swap and only the automatic v8 mustangs got the 255 (4.2) in 80. all the rest were 5.0. 82 was first year for HO but it was a 2 barrel

Or the wrong year was written on the car. What does it look like? It could simply be a '90 mustang and the person putting numbers on just wrote it wrong.

According to the website the only new Mustang in the last week is a 1990. Added 11/10

My brain thought it saw 1980, but going by the input here it must have been a 90. I'd be surprised if it's still there.

From my experience it's pretty common to see the wrong year placed on the car in those places.
