Best materiel to coat frame in for rust prevention?

This is my experience with Rustoleum Rusty Metal primer. What you see below was sprayed on bare metal (cleaned with lacquer thinner) and was in daily use for more than 20 years., but not in a salty environment. I think the lack of rust is impressive for the length of time. On the other hand...

Trouble in the Desert - A Short Story

I'm glad you all enjoyed the story. I felt obligated to share it, given all the Centech fuse panels in the glovebox without a protective cover. Shit happens, be careful what and how you put things in there! Yes, I had spare fuses, a reasonable selection of tools, a spare ignition module, but I...

Trouble in the Desert - A Short Story

The Centech didn't come with one, but I assure you it will have one in the near future!

Trouble in the Desert - A Short Story

We love our Bronco, so my wife and I decided to do a 5 day camping trip in the southeastern deserts of Oregon. We would be driving 600 miles total, a couple hundred miles of dirt roads, some high speed gravel, some in 1st gear 4Lo. Everything went according to plan until the 4th day. We were 35...

    turn signal switch binding?

I wonder if this is causing some of my similar problems. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to check this. Quote: "A work in progress...50 years & counting...Cheaper than therapy." Love it! You gotta love these old trucks to take the abuse.

    hard top insulation

You can buy the thickness of the foam in 1/8 increments up to 1/2" if necessary. If stopping the condensation is your only concern, you might consider using Noico Red 150 mil liner foam insulation. It's a little over 1/8 thick with an adhesive back. They come in roughly 10x16 sheets boxed in...

    hard top insulation

If you'd like me to start another thread to discuss it in more detail, I'd be willing to do that. The photos and info in this thread might be enough. You make the call. -- Joe

    hard top insulation

Thanks! I wasn't very happy with the way Ford built the top, especially the lack of a substantial pillar behind the doors, and the two weak overhead bows trying to support the entire top skin. These were major structural deficiencies I tried to address. Here's the finished product.

    1972 Manual Steering Box Rebuild

If the box is set up correctly, there should be some resistance turning it through center, but not at its outer turning limits.

    1972 Manual Steering Box Rebuild

Rebuilding these boxes it's easier said than done, mainly because the input shaft bearing races are usually badly worn and pitted. New input shafts are not available any longer. Tom's top end rebuilt boxes are extremely expensive, mainly because they need to steal the best parts from several...

    hard top insulation

I used 1/2" closed cell foam. Covered the ply with a modern foam-backed headliner material. Super quiet, no condensation. It's the same material used for the ensolite pad, the same one we sleep on when we spend the night on the snow. You can buy it bulk off a roll. Great insulator. Zero water...

    1972 Manual Steering Box Rebuild

At the very least, the pitman arm has to be disconnected. Better to have the gear removed from the truck. The worm bearing preload is adjusted first, with the mesh loosened 2-3 turns. This is done with a shim pack. After that is correct, adjust the mesh. You will need an in-lb torque wrench.

Need help with 3G alternator voltage pulsing

Steve, I'll do that, but I need to get the XG-12 here first. I'm always super sano about electrical connections, but in the 50+ years I've been working on the Ford 302 I have never considered the physical connection between the alt and block to be an electrical connection. I learned something...

Need help with 3G alternator voltage pulsing

Got it fixed, thank you Steve!! I removed the alternator from the head, cleaned the connection at the batt ground to the block (not too bad), cleaned the mounting surface at the head, but what really needed cleaning was the spacer between the alt and the head. The difference in color is because...

Need help with 3G alternator voltage pulsing

Fairly new Lester 7749 95amp alternator (3-wire), new Centech wiring, no high-drain accessories (such as amplifiers or aftermarket headlamps) It's keeping my battery charged, but the voltage is not steady. I can see it in my headlights, bright then dim, then bright then dim, about a half second...

    Question about axle widths

Ok, thanks guys, I believe you!! BTW, I got lucky here in Central Oregon because we have a really intelligent guy here who does alignments at your house. He specializes in race cars, classics, drift cars, etc.. He aligned the bronco for me, including offsets to correct the camber. No local shop...
