    Door hinge

I used an impact driver (the kind you hit with a hammer to make it turn) with a Phillips bit that was properly sized for the bolt head slots. After a couple of lighter smacks with the hammer to shock load the bolts a little, I smacked them harder to break them loose. Every one of them came out...

    Tow bar mounting options

I did the same thing to tow mine with our motorhome. I had to raise it 4" or so . I went with a Blue Ox 6" drop / 4" rise hitch. On mine I use a Redi-Brute tow bar that plugs into the receiver for the surge brake built into the tow bar to work. The Redi-Brute has to be close to flat or it...

    Tailgate repair patch panel?

Robert, Sorry, but I didn't take any pics. I installed the pipe clamps about 2" from each end then evenly spaced across the rest of it. I placed the 1"x2" strips about 1/2" down from the top, under the pipe clamps, then installed the "C" clamps. The "C" clamps I snugged down to hold them in...

    Rust(proofing) a new build?

I used 3M cavity wax in the inner cavities everywhere on mine after I redid it. The spray cans are 18 oz. cans, which are a little larger than normal spray cans. I also bought the wand kit that fit the nozzle on the cans. The wands are 3/16 or 1/4" OD. One is 24" long with a 360* tip and is the...

    Concealed rear seat

I've been thinking about building something along the same lines as that for mine. Now I'll probably have to add that to the to do list. Mark.

    Shipping DElays

Yep. Ordered a Detroit TruTrac from Summit for my truck (Dana 60) around the end of July knowing it was out of stock until Sept 12th. Got a message that Eaton wouldn't be able to supply it till mid November now. They did want to know if I wanted to cancel the order or wait to get it in. Since...

    Hand brake

Not a JK, but I have one out of an XJ (Cherokee) between the seats in mine. I'm happy with it. Mark.

    Then and Now

The photo on the left is how I remember it when I was working on the Navajo Generating Station in 81-82. All I can say about the recent photo is WOW! That was some great water skiing or fishing on the lake after work back then. I too have pictures from back then somewhere around here. Thanks for...

Lets do it again....what the hell is this?

The second device is a spring bar from a weight distributing hitch that looks like it's been made into a pry bar. The skinny end would have 2 holes that a U bolt and a piece of chain bolts into for the tension on the hitch. Both tools are something that has been re-purposed to meet another need...

    Title Question (model colum)

The Colorado title on my 71 only lists the year (1971) and the make (Ford) with nothing listed under the model. I guess the state doesn't care about the model, so I don't either. Under type it's just listed as a passenger vehicle. It's been that way for the 21 years I've owned it. No worries. Mark.

Gas Cap seal fixed/charcoal cannister deletion?

I have made my own replacement seals out of some thin rubber sheet material. I have a couple on my 75 F250 that have been on there for 6 or 7 years, with no signs of failing. I also have one on the main tank on the Bronco for a couple of years too. I've found that the rubber that is used on the...

Who makes the Very Best door rubber??

My experience with the Wild Horses/Dennis Carpenter door seals is, they are too stiff. When I re-assembled my 71 after paint the door gaps were as perfect as they could be. Installed the door seals and could hardly close the doors. My wife doesn't have enough thumb strength to even open the...

    Power steering box

Another option is to send it out and have it rebuilt. Here are a couple of links for you; https://redheadsteeringgears.com/ or, https://www.bluetopsteering.com/ . Much better options than the junkie rebuilds most part stores carry. Mark.

    Speedway Vintage 16x7 Steel Wheels

I would go with the 7" wheel for the tires you're looking at. If you ever plan on 12.5" wide tires then the 8" would work for both, even though they are a little wide for the 265/75R16's. Mark.
