    NV3550 / Atlas II

I have an NV3550 / Atlas combo in my Bronco. There are pictures and discussion of the original install here in my build thread, then about 8 years later (here in my build thread)I attempted to clock it higher, but ended up just raising the trans mount. There are probably more details there...

I have two gas caps and dont know which one is the main line

I've had a couple of the electric valves (don't remember were I got them). The first one stranded me on the highway with gas in one tank but it wouldn't switch off the empty tank. The replacement failed in a different way. No matter which position it was in it would draw from both tanks. I...

3.50 vs 4.11 used with AOD and 31” tires

For a little while I had an AOD with 4.10s and 33" tires in my Bronco (stockish 302). I was pretty happy with that gearing, but I ended up replacing the AOD with an NV3550 5 speed for other reasons. With a lot more time on the NV3550/4.10 setup I could easily imagine myself preferring 3.50...

    Oil Pan

I was able to R&R the oil pan without moving anything (other than the non-stock exhaust). I don't have stock motor mounts however. I THINK they put the motor in the same place, but it's possible that I get a bit more clearance from them.

    Help recreating emergency brake linkage?

Perfect, thank you! I would think the measurement would be the same for '67 and '71. And while I don't think in those little numbers, I do have to use them enough that I do know the math!

    Help recreating emergency brake linkage?

That will get me about where I need to attach the pivot side-to-side. But I need to figure out where it needs to be front-to-back as well. In other words, how long the piece I cut off was. In the picture you attached earlier it looks to be about 3" behind the rib on the body. I can likely...

    Help recreating emergency brake linkage?

I did, but I don't anymore. I vaguely remember cutting it off at some point because it was in the way of something I was adding (maybe the Atlas transfer case?). At the time I wasn't using the e.brake cables and had no intention of ever using them again because I had rear disks that didn't...

    Help recreating emergency brake linkage?

Thanks! I don't know why I couldn't find that. I searched Wild Horses site a couple of times.

    Help recreating emergency brake linkage?

Thanks! The photo helps a lot! I'm not finding the lever arm for sale. Can anyone measure theirs and let me know how far it is from the pivot point to the bar that goes to the equalizer, to the cable that goes up to the pedal and to the return spring? Looking at the picture and guessing I'd...

    Help recreating emergency brake linkage?

Many years ago I put rear disk brakes on my '71 and haven't had emergency brakes ever since. A few years ago I converted back to drums and am just now finally getting around to hooking up the emergency brake cables. The problem I have is that I'm pretty sure I don't have all of the parts for...

Nothing Special – ’71 daily driver – trail rig build thread

It's been just over a year since my last post here. No big projects in that time, but we've used the Bronco a bit and I've done a few small things, so I thought it was time for a catch-up. Last September we took the Bronco to Hurricane Utah and did some 'wheeling at Sand Hollow. The Bronco did...

    Tow bar mounting options

That's what I did. Works well. Just make sure you get a draw bar rated for a 5000 lb trailer. A lot of them, especially with a big drop/rise, are rated pretty low. By the way, another disadvantage to having the tow bar not flat (in addition to potential safety concerns mentioned already) is...

Rear wheel bearing for small bearing Ford 9" with 31 spline axle shafts

It's back together and it's quiet! Everything went together with no trouble (I do have a 25 ton hydraulic press at work I used). It's almost weird driving it now without the bearing noise, I was so accustomed to it. But it won't be hard to adapt!

Rear wheel bearing for small bearing Ford 9" with 31 spline axle shafts

Here's what came. It's the locking ring and a bearing/seal assembly. Everything looks and measures just like what I took out. There was no retainer plate (and I didn't expect one or need one). I got the old parts cut off today. Hopefully I can get the new ones pressed on and the axle...

Rear wheel bearing for small bearing Ford 9" with 31 spline axle shafts

I have pulled the shaft out, but haven't cut the old bearing off yet. And I have ordered the A1023A from Summit. So we'll see when it comes at this point. Not that waiting to cut the old one off is significant. It's worn out and is not going back in. Period. The guy I talked to at...
