    Which explorer

What year did they stop putting the 5.0 in the explorer?

'66 170 autolite 1100 carb only idles only on choke

Get you a paint can of carb dip. I have cleaned carbs before by spraying them and still had issues. Then after 10 minutes in a dip bucket they ran like a champ. There's just some passages in carbs that you can't get clean enough without it.

    Gas Mileage

Well responding to this part is off topic but I'll post mileage as well to keep it in line. I have a 70 series and it is quiet enough cruising around but still has a bit of attitude when you open it up. I think it's about the best of both worlds that you can get. My mileage which is all town...

    Brake question

Haha you're right about that! My logic for rear vs. front locking is just that any slight angle to the vehicle when the rears are locked can possibly cause it to slide around which would result in total loss of control. Whereas locking the front you are more likely to keep going in the same...

Tinted this F100 fuel injection today

The unibody trucks are odd to me and not my personal taste, but considering their rarity I am surprised there isn't more demand for them.

    Brake question

I am not trying to argue, as in my head there are pros and cons to both ideas but I had a mid 80's Ford truck that had rear ABS only. Seems like the OEM would have some kind of logic for that. I always explained it that when you are under hard braking the weight shift to the front axle will make...

Tinted this F100 fuel injection today

Yep that's my next project, and Bama, you're right. They used to be all over the place. I shoulda snagged one 2 years ago and just stored it.

    Powder Coat Pulleys?

My water pump pulley when I had the 6 cyl was DIY powdered coated by the PO and I never had an issue with it. The area in the V by no means looked perfect after running it but still looked better than an old rusty pulley. I put black aluminum pulleys on when I did the 302 swap but I am thinking...

Best place to find old cars online

Thanks Tyler, I did see that one the other day but after reading and it says no rust and his first photo shows rust above the door I started questioning it. It's been listed for a month maybe I should contact him anyways. CS 88 you're right, I used to see them listed all the time when I wasn't...

Steering issues or is it just me?

How much caster do you have? The C bushings stock on your '66 would have had near 0 caster, and when you lifted it you made it worse. Caster is responsible for the tracking and return-to-center of the front wheels, if it isn't right it can feel very twitchy and unstable. Think of a screwed up...

Best place to find old cars online

Dang it I can't get to either of those at work, I'll have to remember to get on here at home and try. I feel your pain on trying to find another one Jax, it seems the classics never do get easier to find. That's half of the reason I don't ever want to sell mine, not sure I could ever find a...

'66 170 autolite 1100 carb only idles only on choke

Back when I first got mine running with the 6 cylinder, I had to clean the carb multiple times because the gas cleaned everything out of the tank and lines and sent it to the carb. One time I got away with taking the idle mix screw out and spraying a little cleaner into the hole but the other...

Best place to find old cars online

Wow Jax, I guess I'll stop looking on the east coast! Saw one in Daytona but turned out to be a long bed. I've definitely learned over the years that good deals don't last long on CL. I make a habit of checking daily if I am looking for something specific. Tyler, I'm looking for a shortbed 2wd...

Best place to find old cars online

Thanks but PA would be a long way to go from FL to get one! Thanks guys. Hadn't heard of search tempest but it's similar to the old Jaxed that I used to use. Sure made it easy to browse regionally instead of locally. Now the trick is finding a fair deal, seems like they aren't as expensive as...

Best place to find old cars online

This is somewhat Bronco related since it applies to them as well but I am now on the hunt for a '65-'66 F-100. Back when I bought my Bronco there were magical search engines that would automatically search craigslist in multiple locations. They shut those down several years back and I need to...
