Bronco vs. motorcycle: which would you choose?

Tough choice. I hear ya on the behavior of cagers. It's made me ponder whether a rational man shouldn't just ditch the road bike and stick to the dirt to get his bike fix. I've been all over the country on my road bike (jap cruiser) so I've kinda scratched that itch enough at this point if I...

    Ignition poroblem?

Quick question. On a holley TA, when you adjust the idle speed screw all the way out, should it completely close the throttle? -al

    Ignition poroblem?

Well my voltage idea was a whiff. I get 12.5V regardless of rpm. What's odd is that the voltage on the other side of my ballast resistor goes down with rpm. Idling in neutral at about 1200 it reads 8V to the coil. As the idle speed decreases, down to about 500 where it wants to die, the...

    Ignition poroblem?

I think I may have just had an epiphany. I've had bad plug wires before and it caused the engine to idle a little rough but nothing like this. So I was thinking about it in the bathroom this morning, where I do my best thinking. :p In the course of all this I also discovered that my lower...

    Ignition poroblem?

Yes I was doing around 60 when it happened. The shop it was towed to pulled the valve covers expecting a broken valve spring or bent pushrod or something but said everything was fine. That's when I showed up and checked the distributor. The drive gear on the distributor was loose, didn't turn...

    Ignition poroblem?

I keep thinking back to the original problem, which was a broken distributor gear roll-pin that threw my timing way off and caused backfire thru the intake. It got so hot up there that I actually burned myself on the air cleaner nut. What kind of lingering problems could that cause? -al

    Ignition poroblem?

I did something a little different. I swapped the #8 plug with one of the others. The problem stayed on the #8 cyl. So I checked compression on #8 again just to be sure and it's 120psi. Tried a different plug wire too. When I pull the plug it's not wet. WTF? I don't see any reason why #8...

    Ignition poroblem?

Firing order is right. #3 seems to be behaving now. But #8 still doesn't. I can pull the wire and put a screwdriver in it and get an arc. And I can flash my timing light off that wire, and read engine rpm from that wire. But when I pull it off the distributor the engine rpm doesn't change...

    Ignition poroblem?

I can identify two cyls that aren't firing by pulling plug wires off one at a time and watching rpm. But the plugs are new, gapped right, look fine, wires ohm the same as all the others. Cap/rotor? They are nearly new. The bad ones are 3 and 8 which are not right next to each other. -al...

    Ignition poroblem?

77 bronco, late 70's 351W, holley TA, Mallory comp9000. Here's the full story so we don't miss anything. Driving down the highway, everything running great, when suddenly I lose power and start backfiring. After I pulled over I discovered I was backfiring thru the carb so I called a tow...

Wild animals in or around your house. Bobcat again.

A mountain lion killed my neighbor's cat this winter. He let it out early one morning, and the lion just so happened to be under the porch at the time. He said it jumped up on a wood pile, launched into the air, landed on the kitty, CHOMP, then walked away and left it laying there in the snow...

    truck avenger tech link

I was searching around for some info and found this. Thought it might be useful for anybody tuning a Holley TA. -al http://www.holley.com/data/Products/Technical/199R10268-4.pdf

    Rear shocks too short?

I'm installing a 2.5" WH suspension this weekend. I have the rear springs in, and with just a little bit of weight on them, not the whole weight of the truck but just a few pumps on the jack holding the axle so the suspension is almost at full droop, the WH shocks won't extend quite enough. Is...

    hole in plastic aux tank

I asked the same question a while back and people suggested just putting a screw in the hole. Haven't tried it yet. -al

    Hesitation at High Speed

Rich condition can do the same thing. BTW, I can drive 70-80 with my 33's and stiff-ass suspension and it handles pretty well but at 3500rpm it sucks the gas and gets really noisy and the wind wants to suck the ragtop right off the rig. So I generally don't drive over 65. -al
